Moadra Protoplasm & Bioplasm Explained

What Protoplasm and Bioplasm do in Moadra: upgrade currency at organic chambers, ability fuel, respec rules, and demo patch changes.

10/23/2026 Last updated: 10/23/2026 6 min read

Verified on 2026-10-23 against Steam store copy, Gloomsoft demo patch notes on Steam news, Steam player reviews, and third-party demo notes (gamehowto.com, October 2026) where we flag unconfirmed details.

Protoplasm is your long-term upgrade currency: biomass from fallen enemies, spent at organic chambers to metamorphose gear and powers. Bioplasm is your combat resource for activating many abilities—it does not tick back up on its own, and you refill it from Bioplasm charges on enemies and from resting at organic chambers. Organic chambers also act as save/rest points where reviews report healing charges and build respec.

What is Protoplasm?

Aspect Detail Source label
How you earn it Energy biomass from killing enemies Official — Steam detailed description
Where you spend it Organic chambers — “metamorphosis” upgrades Official — Steam + Gloomsoft site
Build flexibility Upgrade and respec at stations Player-reported — Steam reviews; aligns with official “metamorphosis” framing
UI Numeric counter on HUD (e.g. purple icon); separate Evolve Chamber trees per weapon/ability Official screenshot + media — Pixel Twelve described per-weapon tracks

Protoplasm is tied to exploration and combat pacing: the map marks seen but uncollected Protoplasm nodes according to Steam player reviews (see our scanner and map guide). Collecting everything feeds the The Gist of It achievement (all Protoplasm Gists)—a 0.8% global unlock snapshot on 2026-10-23 in our achievements guide.

Starting loadout (player-reported, consistent across reviews): you begin with one blaster and one healing ability with limited uses that refill when you rest at an organic chamber—not with Bioplasm for that heal in demo 1.1.0 onward (see below).

FAQ

What is Protoplasm used for in Moadra?
Official Steam text describes Protoplasm as energy biomass absorbed from kills. You spend it at organic chambers to metamorphose—upgrade weapons and abilities. Steam player reviews add that stations allow free upgrades and respec. The Evolve Chamber UI shows separate tracks per weapon and skill (visible in official screenshots).
What is Bioplasm in Moadra?
Player-facing guides and Steam reviews treat Bioplasm as the meter spent to use abilities. It does not regenerate passively during exploration. Sources agree you refill it from enemy Bioplasm charges and by resting at organic chambers. Treat exact refill rates as player-reported unless a future official patch note lists numbers.
Did Heal Lifeblood or Purify Lifeblood Bioplasm costs change?
Demo patch 1.0.1 (21 Feb 2025, official) lowered Bioplasm costs for Purify Lifeblood and Protopulse. Demo 1.1.0 (28 Apr 2025, official) states Heal Lifeblood no longer consumes Bioplasm and can be recharged in the Evolve Chamber. Full-game balance may match or differ—we label those lines as demo-era official patches.
Can you respec Protoplasm upgrades?
Steam store marketing and multiple Steam player reviews describe organic chambers as places to upgrade and reset builds. No published source we could verify lists a numeric respec fee. If a patch adds costs, check the latest Gloomsoft Steam news post after major updates.
Which achievements relate to Protoplasm abilities?
Steam lists Feed the Weeds (Caustic Creepers), Wall Surgery (Wall Surger), Volatile Flight (Blightwing), and Resourceful Warrior (20+ kills with one Protopulse). Global unlock rates were snapshotted on 2026-10-23 in our achievements guide. See the linked achievements page for percentages and wording.
Where do I see Protoplasm and Bioplasm on the HUD?
Official screenshots show a Protoplasm total (purple-toned counter) and central ability or lifeblood meters at the bottom of the screen. Exact layout can vary by weapon and upgrades. For keyboard bindings to abilities, use our controls guide; a third-party demo controls list (gamehowto.com, October 2026) lists Q/E ability switching—confirm in Settings after launch.
